Carissimo Vasta,

Sal, what can I say to you in reply but things happen for a reason, and that your partnership in this project was not something that I can regard as just a fluke or insignificant ...   Your work and your professional merits are beyond outstanding. What I  received goes beyond just contracted work, (and I hope that the money aspect of it became secondary to you as much as it did to me.).
Care and attention to detail such as the kind you commit to your garments take you to a level of craft that only the artisan truly can know or appreciate. A rare thing in a global society that is forever pursuing a certain mundane-ness, and dulling down of thought and creativity.  I have no doubt that we'll be united again in some endeavor, and until that time, keep yourself and your family safe and healthy. May your work continue to prosper and flourish.  Look forward to the next.

Sal --
Just got the kappes -- and they are exquisite. Every bit as well-done as I had hoped. Don't know which I like best -- but they both beat the lame version I got from "someone else". The stampings add so much to the authenticity and the weight of the wool appears to be right on. You even included the vents behind the korkades. The leaf is great touch -- I have an eidelweiss set aside for the other one. Plus a repro 'tinnie' waits each.

Thanks -- it was well worth the wait.
Jerry Filson

(Postscript)

Regarding the kappes. Now that I’ve had them a week or so and studied them a bit, comparing them with photos — and I’m pretty sure I have virtually everything currently in print regarding Austrian uniforms [have you found out anything about that out-of-print uniform book on your website you said you’d check into?], I’m very impressed with the fidelity and flawless authenticity of your work.

I also have a kappe from the only other U.S. source for Austrian uniforms. The difference in color and weight of the wool and quality of construction is blatantly apparent. The other kappe also lacks the wealth of detail such as depot and inspection stampings, the original King Franz Joseph and King Karl korkades — and even the two twine loops behind the neck curtain for holding a Jaeger leaf — the leaf was also included!

Good Afternoon,Salvatore:   The camiciotto arrived in today's mail and luckily I was home to receive and sign for it. You sure had it wrapped well and it came in mint condition.  What a beautiful reproduction and is exactly how this fading memory remembers those that I saw on Italian POW"S that I came in contact with.  The dark sand color seemed a bit strange to me , and the belt was even darker. However the belts were always much darker due to the fact that they were usually much less exposed to the hot desert sun because the Italian Enlisted man usually had the leather gray-green Belt over it with several pieces of equipment connected to it until such gear was discarded when they became prisoners of the Allies.  The same was true of the Africa Korps troops uniform and Pith Helmet which was an olive-Green when new but after a lot of exposure to the sun bleached out to a light sand color.   I'm thrilled with the accurate and top quality work that you did and I thank you for the effort.
So please keep in touch, and again thanks for the shipment which was definitely well worth waiting for.
Take care of youself and your developing family.

October 10, 2004

I was privileged recent to watch the crew from IFG sew up my tunic. I was amazed to see the attention to detail. The pattern was made from an original tunic taken apart literally stitch by stitch. The hidden details are amazing. The repro has the same cotton waste shoulder padding same as the originals (no poly wadding). It is this attention to detail that is outstanding.  The fit is superb. I took the repro to the Alpini museum in Trento, and it matched the colour range in their collection.

The Ammo rig was appreciated by all my friends and reenactors colleagues.  Besides I am very impressed with that you sent me even more, than I expected (I did not expect such rare version of bayonet frog).  I still would like to order tactical bag (any variant: ex-gas mask bag М33 or М35, or tactical bag М39). Can I order and pay it?  Is available at you italian mess kit (with drinking cup)? How much it cost?
As far as I understand you seriously engaged in military-historical reenacting. What clubs? What sorts of armies, departments etc.?  In our country (I think in all territory of former Soviet Union) except for me nobody is engaged in reconstruction of the WWII Italian army.
Good Luck!

The 2 shirts finally caught up with me in my travels, and I must say they are absolutely beautiful.
Just a thought:  if you could take the same pattern and replace the collar with a "banded" collar, and make them out of the same nice linen material, you would almost have an early war German service shirt, which no one makes (at least none that are good).  ...Either way, the market is here, and you make wonderful stuff.

Dear Salvo:
I recommend your services very highly. I received the North African uniform, and your workmanship and attention to historic detail are exceptional. It is refreshing to find a business that deals with it's clients in a fair an honorable way.

Good Morning, Salvatori: Although the shipment did arrive yesterday I had to go to the post office this morning to pick it up as no one was home then to receive it. I am very happy with the items you sent. The Rosettes are beautiful and will make the 2 pith helmets look complete after I mount them. More over, they look exactly like the original on the one I shipped home from North Africa in 1943. I also love the Sand Goggles and spare lenses with are almost mint and in better condition than the ones I also sent home from Africa. The Mess kit cup is exactly as I remember or have seen in books.
Again thanks for the first of my shipments.

Respectfully,

Bob Lawrence

Buongiorno Salvatore:
I just wanted to let you know that I received the MVSN helmet this weekend and am very satisfied.  The workmanship is excellent.  I located the roundel and crown on the reverse side of the liner that you mentioned, and also noticed some other small details... Once again, I am very pleased with the helmet.

Grazie, i ciao,

Hi Salvatore,
I wanted to let you know I received the para helmet last week.  I am very pleased with it.  Thanks!  The detail is very good.  I find myself looking for photographic details in  books to compare to my example.  The stitching is close to photos in Rex Trye's book.  You did a good job on these. ...

Take care and best to yours,

Russ

Came today, nice work, thank you, Sal. I also appreciate the fact that you are responsible & mark them so as to make clear its a repro (altho I'm sure people have figured out how to remove ink stamps!)  It was actually none too large - never really know with hat sizes, but this worked out fine.
Ciao,

Salvatore,
Received the tunic and pants today.  They look great.  No problem with fit and the M-40 trousers are OK.  Have some kaki sox's and leggings.
Thanks for your effort to get it here on time and thank you for the collar tab stars.  I'm sewing on corporal stripes and maybe an Ethiopian Campaign ribbon to finish it off.  The magazine also looks great!  The Italian Army is so under exposed in the military history department.

Subject: GG Bustina Order

Dear Mr. Vasta,
This will confirm the receipt of one GG officer's bustina previously ordered.  It arrived today.  It is a nice looking cap and when I opened it at work a co-worker asked straight away whether it was a real item.  She was impressed with the quality of the workmanship and the material that went into the making of it.
I told her that it was a real reproduction of a popular piece of headgear worn by the Italian army of WWII.  She too is Italian.  It fits just right as long as I keep my hair cut close.  This cap is a very nice addition to my collection of headgear.  Your workmanship is superb and I may have to order the khaki bustina as a bonus.  When will your website be up and running again?
Sincerely,
Len Mitchell

Hello !
I was at an event in Oregon last week where I had the opportunity to see  a uniform that I believe you put together for a  young guy named Mike .
Wow ! It blew our minds !
I'm very interested in the trousers he was wearing . If I remember correctly , his impression was that of a Black Shirt. ...They were extremely BAGGY and bloused down well over his boot ankles almost obscuring the boot itself except for the toes.  They were magnificent!! How much are they ????
I'm very interested !
Thanks ,
Jason Honea

Ciao Salvo,
They came into today!  They look great, but I think I might of ordered them one size too many.  The pants are big around the legs just like I wanted them. I want to get some pics of them at the event with the B/W film to see what it looks like overall with my gear and everything.  Anyway, I hope I can buy an M-41 wool tunic soon.  Here's a pic of the Nicholas Cage movie coming out in August!

Hi Salvatore,

I just got back from the Post Office with the package!  It is one of the best uniforms I have ever seen!  The quality is superb, my mom wanted to take a look at it too and she said it looks really good.  ...The fit is just perfecto. Definitely this is a fine garment Salvo. This brand of repro wear is too good!  It's the Janke of Italian uniforms and I'm going to recommend it to everybody. Just wait until I show this to my 12th SS friends, even though they're into the German thing I think this will catch their eye.

Stammi bene,

Ciao,

Mike
